Sung Hyun, Yeon Seong become first finalist of Men’s Doubles event – Singapore Open Update
Men’s Doubles experts Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea escorted their country to title match of Li Ning Singapore Open by overpowering Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in semi-final on June 23, 2012.
However, it was not smooth road to victory for them as they had to sweat hard for 60 minutes to read favourable figures of 19-21, 21-19, and 21-14.
Now, they are just one battle away from the crown and they will lock horns either with reigning Olympic Champion duo Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan or the talented pair Hiroyuki Endo- Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan.
World Number four duo stamped their supremacy by stealing last two segments in the semi-final match while the opposing team frittered away a golden chance of a straight-set win.
Though, Indonesians opened their marathon in perfect manner but they could not maintain their rhythm in final stage of the contest.
The twosome of Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano started first set with a swift progress on scoreboard.
They got into commanding position with six points and then placed a decent total of 11-8 at mid-game break.
Later part of the game was filled with lot of drama as the Koreans created trouble by snatching six points without any interruption.
However, the Indonesian campaigner woke up in time and wrapped the show with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-19.
Next game was replay of previous one but result was different this time. This segment turned most captivating part as both contenders snapped each other’s heels to achieve their respective goals.
Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong dominated in first part of the game and gained a slight edge in 11-9 total before the interval.
They committed some unforced errors in third quarter which allowed their competitors to level score at 14-14.
Both teams remained close until 18-17 but the Koreans gathered four out of last five points to put a significant figure of 21-19.
Conversely, the decider turned a flat contest as Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong did not give their challengers even a single opportunity to proceed and cast them out with staggering margin of 21-14.
