Sung Hyun, Yong Dae claim a semi-final spot in 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG
Korea’s prime Men’s Doubles team Ko Sung Hyun-Lee Yong Dae stretched its winning streak in Syed Modi International India GPG and marched into semi-final round on December 21, 2012.
They overpowered Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pankaryanira-Ade Yusuf of Indonesia in a quarter-final match that ended with decisive figures of 21-12, 21-23 and 21-8.
This hard fought battle took place in local badminton arena of Lucknow where a decent number of spectators gathered to encourage both contestants.
World Number 18 duo Sung Hyun-Yong Dae proved its supremacy in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the opposing team could live its moment of glory only in the second set.
The Korean campaigners showed superb coordination in the opening game and bagged this vital match point with distinction.
They did not give their rivals enough time to get settled and trounced them with a brisk attack. They established an unassailable lead with 6-0 margin and maintained that significant difference all the way to final moments.
Wahyu Nayaka and Ade Yusuf made every effort to narrow the gap but they could not achieve their goal. They surrendered after a futile exercise of 12-21.
However, the Indonesian shuttlers managed to bring the contest to right balance in very next game. This time they matched their competitor’s skills and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
In first half of the set, they were bit sluggish but then few uninterrupted productive rallies kick-started their campaign.
They capitalised this flow and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the announcement of break.
After the one-minute interval, Wahyu Nayaka and Ade Yusuf played with great precision and finished this set with a tight yet decisive margin of 23-21.
This made third set a survival of the fittest war as both contenders were just one step away either from semi-final round or an immediate exit.
The higher ranked Korean pair showed its class when it mattered and wrapped this showdown in commendable manner.
Sung Hyun and Yong Dae registered an overwhelming figure of 21-8 and setup their next clash with the twosome of Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra.
