Sung Ji Hyun casts out Chang Ya Lan in Women’s Singles opening round – Korea Open Update
Women’s Singles shuttler Sung Ji Hyun had a perfect start in Korea Grand Prix Gold as she smacked Chang Ya Lan in the opening round and marched into the pre quarter-finals on December 5, 2012.
This showdown, staged at local badminton arena of Hwasun-gun, concluded in just two games as the Korean badminton queen locked the honour by registering a favourable result of 21-12 and 21-10.
She played with complete authority and did not allow her rival to pocket even a single match point.
Meanwhile, the Taipei player looked off colour throughout this opening round match and crashed out of this prestigious event in a disgraceful manner.
First sign of trouble came for Ya Lan when she let many valuable points slip from her hands in the beginning of first set and then failed to come out of this deficit until the game point situation.
The opposing contestant did not give her enough time to get settled and confounded the inexperienced shuttler with an unbeatable strategy.
World Number eight shuttler Ji Hyun, who is top seeded player of this GP Gold event, employed all of her brilliance in the game and proved herself superior.
She launched a brisk attack and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 in no time. This initial lead gave a real boost and she doubled the total in third quarter of the set.
The Korean female shuttler maintained a notable difference of nine points until last shot was played and swept the table with a significant margin of 21-12.
Next game also belonged to JI Hyun as she did not lose this rhythm and transformed her 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory.
This time she played with even more precision and her game plan was so complete that Ya Lan permanently remained at the lower end.
The Taipei shuttler kept on making mistakes which ultimately paved her path to a woeful exit. She lost control over game straight away in the establishing rallies and failed to counter-balance the situation.
On the other hand, Ji Hyun established an unassailable lead of eleven points and capitalised this advantage to register a convincing score of 21-10.
