Sung Ji Hyun exceeds Eriko Hirose in group stage of 2012 BWF Superseries Finals
Women’s Singles shuttler Sung Ji Hyun of Korea employed all of her brilliance in the game and surpassed Eriko Hirose in Group A match of BWF Superseries Finals on Wednesday, December 12, 2012.
This short-lived tussle took place in local badminton arena of Shenzhen, China and the Korean campaigner locked the honour by registering 21-12 and 21-15 margin.
World Number eight Ji Hyun laid foundation of her supremacy in very first set and enjoyed an upper hand in most part of the encounter.
Meanwhile, the Japanese contender failed to come out of her rival’s influence throughout this straight-set match and faced a woeful defeat.
The battle heated up when Ji Hyun launched an intensive attack in the preliminary stage of opening game and gained an early advantage.
She mounted pressure by putting 4-1 total on the board and then magnified the impact by prevailing in next couple of rallies.
Though, Eriko Hirose tried to tip the scale in her favour but she could not hit the mark until mid-game break.
She finished first half of the set with a three-point deficit and failed to come out of her challenger’s influence after one-minute break.
Ji Hyun made best out of her initial lead and widened the gap in third quarter of the set. She did not allow her competitor to proceed on the points table and won this crucial game with an overwhelming margin of 21-12.
This first set loss proved final blow for the Japanese player as she could not rise on her toes. Her below par performance ultimately led her to a disgraceful defeat.
On the other hand, Ji Hyun showed consistency in her performance and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
The Korean badminton queen unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and added many valuable points in her total.
She did not lose focus at any stage of the game and proved herself superior throughout this crucial segment of the showdown.
Ji Hyun raised her chances of success by placing 11-7 margin at half time and then raised hands as victor with 21-15 score on the board.
Now she is just two steps away from the elimination round of this Super Series event.
