Sung Ji Hyun tames Lindaweni Fanetri in Women’s Singles quarter-final of the Chinese Taipei Open
Sung Ji Hyun, the number two seed in Korea made her way into the Women’s Singles semi-final after taming Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri in the quarter-final match of the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open, in Sinjhuang City, on Friday, September 9.
Ji Hyun is placed at Number 12 in the Women’s Singles world standings and is the fourth seed in the Taipei Open. She has been playing terrific badminton in the previous rounds of the tournament and did not lose even a single set to any of her opponents.
In the quarter-final of the event, the Korean played a remarkable game against the eighth seed Fanetri, and won the match in straight games by playing a top-class game for 45 minutes. It was a good match between the two talented shuttlers as both played
with great touch of aggression and precision. However, the Korean emerged as the winner at the end by playing smart badminton at the ending points of both games.
In the first game, Ji Hyun tried to establish a reasonable lead in the start but her rival was playing at an equal level. In the opening half of the game, no one could take a clear lead as they were not making unforced errors. Until the break, Ji Hyun was
in a lead with a slight difference of 11-9.
After the break, the Indonesian played an aggressive game and levelled the score by reaching at 13-13. Ji Hyun became quick at this stage and started to put pressure on her challenger by playing deceptive strokes from her back-hand side. Her planned game
in the concluding phase of the first game helped her in winning the set with a margin of 21-17, in 21 minutes.
The second game of this quarter-final contest was tougher as both ladies reached at 17-17. The wonderful exchange of long and attacking rallies grabbed the attention of the local crowd. Ji Hyun managed to produce better strokes at the end and scored the
finishing points to bag the game with a 21-19 margin, in 24 minutes.
This Women’s Singles quarter-final ended with the margin of 21-17 and 21-19. In the Women’s Singles semi-final, Ji Hyun will be up against Hsiao Ma Pai of Chinese Taipei.
