Sung Ji Hyun tames Mingtian Fu to grab her spot in Women’s Singles quarter-final at Singapore Open
Sung Ji Hyun, the top shuttler from Korea, showed her skills in the court and grabbed her spot in Women’s Singles quarter-final after taming her local opponent Mingtian Fu in round-of-16 battle at Singapore Open Super Series 2012 in Singapore, on Thursday, June 21.
The World Number 8 Ji Hyun, who has been seeded at number 3 in Women’s Singles draw of the championship, put up thrashing show of flawless badminton and outclassed her Singaporean opponent in an inspiring fashion.
Ji Hyun, who has been playing at her best for the last couple of weeks, lived up to the expectations while playing against Mingtian and overpowered her easily in two games with a decent score on the board.
In the meanwhile, Mingtian could not stretch her winning run in front of her home fans as she was helpless against the power play of her Korean opponent and lost to her in straight sets in 44 minutes.
The in-form Ji Hyun could not find a good start as her local opponent was dictating the pace or rallies.
The Korean tried her best to control the pace but failed to maintain her focus and remained trailing at 9-11 until the break.
After the one-minute interval, the Singaporean lady continued her impressive play and reached at 15-10 when Ji Hyun changed her tactics and managed to make the score levelled at 15-15.
The higher ranked Ji Hyun continued her roller coaster performance and took the game in a striking fashion by a margin of 21-17.
In the second game, both ladies played at their maximum speed and also pushed each other to the limit but failed to set up a reasonable gap until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, it was Ji Hyun who geared up her speed and established a small lead. She was fully focused in the ending phase of second game and played positive badminton which helped her to grab the set with a 21-18 margin on the board.
The higher ranked Korean emerged as victorious in this Women’s Singles round-of-16 clash with a decent score of 21-17 and 21-18.
