Sung Ji Hyun unseats Aprilla Yuswandari in final round of 2012 Korea Open GP Gold
Women’s Singles expert Sung Ji Hyun remained invincible in the final round of Korea Grand Prix Gold and snatched the crown from Aprilla Yuswandari on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
This title match was played at the local badminton complex of Hwasun-gun, Korea and kept both shuttlers busy on court for 46 minutes.
World Number eight Ji Hyun, who was top seeded player of this prestigious event, relished full benefits of home ground to finish this showdown with a favourable result of 21-10 and 21-10.
On the other hand, the Indonesian campaigner could not rise in the pressure situation and knelt down after receiving a 2-0 defeat.
The battle heated up immediately in the first set as the Korean female shuttler launched a brisk attack and confined her rival in the rear court.
Ji Hyun did not waste time and established an early lead. She capitalised that initial advantage and bagged many valuable points in a row.
This flow helped her to keep the opposing shuttler at lower end. She placed an indomitable total of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, Ji Hyun played with even more precision and did not give her competitor any chance to comeback.
Though, Aprilla strived hard and managed to pocket some vital points but that short campaign was not enough to tip the scale in her favour.
The Indonesian shuttler kept trailing behind all the way to final moments and gave up this futile chase when scoreboard flashed concluding margin of 10-21.
Next game had nothing for Aprilla as Ji Hyun ruled the court from very stroke to the last one.
The Korean player unleashed a series of power packed smashes and pushed her challenger to the back foot.
She did not lose focus and piled up a respectable total of 11 before the announcement of break. She showed consistency in her performance and dominated overall pace of the rallies also in second half.
In third quarter of the set, Aprilla showed some spark but she failed to carry that rhythm and knelt down in the final stage.
Ji Hyun registered an impressive margin of 21-10 and earned the right to raise Women’s Singles trophy of Korea Open GP Gold.
