Sung Ji Hyun wins Women’s Singles crown at the Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix 2011 – Badminton news
Sung Ji Hyun, the second seed in Korea, played stunning badminton throughout the tournament and won the Women’s Singles crown after crushing Thailand’s Inthanon Ratchanok in the final of the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix, on Sunday, September 11, in
Chinese Taipei.
World Number 12 shuttler, Ji Hyun was seeded at number four in the Women’s Singles draw of the tournament. She played positive and attacking badminton in the whole tournament and gained confidence of winning the final match in straight games against the
higher ranked Inthanon. The Korean completed her quest for the title in the event by winning it in striking fashion.
The Korean opened the first set slowly as she was making herself comfortable in the court. Her opponent, however, took no time in settling herself with the conditions of the court. Ji Hyun got her momentum after a few points and accelerated her speed to
reach at 11-10 after the end of the first part of the initial game.
After taking a short break for one-minute, the close encounter continued between both ladies until the ending phase of the opening set. The score was 20-20, when the Korean became incredibly quick and clinched the first game with a tight difference of 22-20,
by taking a court time of 26 minutes.
In the second game, the Thai shuttler played to her full speed in the opening points but she lost her control over the pace of the bird and committed many errors. She was playing with aggression but her hand-eye co-ordination was not that good as she made
many unforced errors. Until the one-minute break in the second game, the Korean remained successful in establishing a comfortable lead of 11-7.
After the break, Ji Hyun maintained the gap by playing to her full abilities. She displayed badminton of the highest class and won the set by a wonderful margin of 21-14, in 18 minutes. The 44-minute contest ended in favour of the Korean who won the battle
in straight games with a 22-20 and 21-14 score.
