Sung-Joon Park leads the way at The Crowns Championship – Japan Golf Tour

The first round of The Crowns Championship sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour commenced today. The event is being hosted at the par-70, Nagoya Golf Club Wago Course. This is a four-day tournament as Sung-Joon
Park emerged as the leader after the first round.
The first round of this four-day championship concluded today. It was the local lad, Park, who carded a great round of golf. His score of five-under par, 65 clearly shows that the youngster was in great
touch with his putter. He was also hitting the ball well off the fairway and some of his approach shots were text book material.
Park was more than pleased with the way he played during his round. He was going smoothly during the first six holes as he made five birdies. It was the par-4, 8th where he made his first mistake
of the day. He had a double bogey on the 8th. Park had a total of seven birdies, a bogey and a double bogey.
Park was quite satisfied with his round and is hoping to continue this form in the next three rounds also to win the championship. Park is just one shot clear of his nearest competitor. He has to continue
with his under par rounds to curb the challenge of his opponents.
Shunsuke Sonoda is just one behind the leader. He posted a score of four-under par, 66 which included two bogeys. Sonoda had a total of six birdies as he had a few brilliant approach shots. Some of his
birdies were the resultant of great iron shots.
Sonoda had a good read of the greens and was putting excellently during his round. He was quite satisfied with a good start to this tournament.
Eight players share the third spot. All these players had a same score of three-under par, 67 and are just two behind the leader. The weather
and course conditions were easy as more than twenty players carded under par rounds.
The defending champion Ryo Ishikawa opened his tournament with a score of two-under par, 68. Although, he is three strokes behind the leader, he still has a great chance of defending his title this year.
The teenager Ishikawa was a bit way-ward during his round but his swing was in complete momentum. Second round of this championship will be played
tomorrow.
