  1. Er, apparently our optician friend is behind on the times. MaxSight contact lenses were approved, made public, and have since been discontinued. For many, if not most, people with photophobia strong enough to warrant seeking out this option, they were not dark enough for some indoor uses, to say nothing of trying to use them outdoors. The tint was designed with normally light-reactive people in mind, not light sensitive. Regardless, I stockpiled them before they went out.

However, there's still options! You can get prosthetic contacts made with a tinted pupil. It's expensive, it takes about 12 weeks to get an order in, and some people just can't deal with wearing contacts any ways, but they can make a big difference in how effectively you deal with light sensitivity and how confident you are, especially if your photophobia requires the use of sunglasses indoors.

See an experienced ophthalmologist. Call the office ahead of time and find out what, if any, that doctor's experience is in fitting prosthetic contacts, or if he's willing to try it in lack of experience.

  2. There are lenses called MaxSight that is being used in trials by some professional sports players. Such as golfers and baseball players.

They are meant to replace a sunglass when out in the sun , but of course are too dark to wear at night, or when you go back indoors. So, they have to be removed after your fun in the sun.

They have been FDA approved recently, and should be available to the public soon.

They are a collaboration between Bausch and Lomb, and Nike.

    OOOps...sorry about old info.

I really didn't know anything about them, but found that info in a Google search...but it wasn't dated.

I had heard of the name awhile back, but nothing since.
