Sunil Dahiya, Jasmin Ng embrace victory in Mixed Doubles event of Division 2 - Slazenger Cup 2012
Auckland’s Sunil Dahiya-Jasmin Ng proved their mettle against Jeff Stuthridge-Hayley Brown and registered their presence in Division 2 - Slazenger Cup at Hamilton, New Zealand on August 9, 2012.
This hard fought tussle was third Mixed Doubles tie of match between Auckland and Waikato and it prolonged to three gruelling sets before ending with 17-21, 21-15 and 21-14.
The victorious duo took some time to get on the right track and lost the opening game but they cruised to victory in two consecutive games at death.
Meanwhile, the Waikato campaigners frittered away all of their efforts in ending two sets and crashed out in disgraceful manner.
In the first set, Jeff and Hayley looked in prime touch as they dazzled their rivals with a lustrous performance.
They did not find any trouble to establish a decent lead which ultimately helped them to set foundation of their victory.
They made best out of this initial advantage and raised their total to a respectable position of 11 before the announcement of break.
Later part of the game saw them making swift progress and leaving the opposing team far behind with a convincing margin of 21-17.
However, the story was entirely different in following game as the twosome of Sunil and Jasmin showed elevated craft and turned their opponents’ plan of a straight-set win into dust.
The Auckland shuttlers did not show any sign of confusion and played with great precision despite of going down in previous set. They pushed their competitors in all areas of the court and did not allow them to match their speed.
They finished the first half with a notable difference and then doubled the impact by putting an overwhelming figure of 21-15.
Third set became consequential with this development as both teams were standing on the same level with one win each.
They chased each other until the interval but then a powerful campaign took Sunil and Jasmin to commanding position in third quarter of the set.
They did not squander this opportunity and strengthened their grip with couple of successive points. They raised hands as champions with scoreboard flashing 21-14 total in their favour.
