Sunil Gavaskar and Lalit Modi join forces against BCCI
The former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has praised Sunil Gavaskar. In the wake of recent controversy between Sunil Gavaskar and the Indian cricket board, the former commissioner regarded Sunil as straightforward and forth right during his
tenure.
According to Lalit Modi, Gavaskar maintained a high level of integrity and fairness during his interaction with the former player.
The disgraced suspended IPL Commissioner was backing Sunil Gavaskar in his disagreement over the payment issue. The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) denied any payment due for Gavaskar as an IPL Governing council member. A day after the denial
by BCCI, former commissioner, Lalit Modi, spoke in favour of Sunil Gavaskar.
Gavaskar had bitterly criticized the Indian Cricket board for not paying him for his role in the IPL governing council. However, his claims were immediately rejected by the BCCI. It was in this context that Lalit Modi backed Gavaskar
for his integrity and fair dealing. On the other hand, Cricket board secretary N Srinivansan declared Gavaskar’s claims as false and baseless.
Lalit Modi’s reputation was tainted in the backdrop of severe financial embezzlement in the conduct of Indian Premier League. It was his first public appearance after the controversy. He had recently been served with a ‘Blue Corner’
notice by the enforcement directorate.
Modi has started taking part in sports activities again. He was invited as the guest speaker at the prestigious Sports Event management conference at Twickenham. He would have the opportunity to interact with some of the giant sport
organizing officials. The officials include the CEOs of the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
During the event, Modi would deliberate on the success of IPL and his future vision on the limited version of cricket. The address by Lalit Modi would then be followed by a question and answer session on various sports issues.
Lalit Modi’s return in the sports arena has been received with mixed opinion in the sports circle. Similarly his support for Gavaskar and careful analysis of the issue has also been viewed with skepticism. Is there some compromise being negotiated between

Lalit Modi expressed his confidence that BCCI president Shashank Manohar and ICC president Sharad Pawar would amicably resolve the issue involving Gavaskar. He refrained from making any comments on the pay package of Gavaskar. The controversy between Gavaskar
and BCCI took a new twist after Gavaskar claimed that a promise of extra payment for his services had been made by former president Sharad Pawar.
With an influx of money and commercialism, the most reputed personalities are now getting themselves mired in strange controversies. Gavaskar has a clean image in the cricket arena not only as a player but also he maintained transparency during his tenure
as member of the governing council. However, the recent claims by Sunil Gavaskar about his pending dues against BCCI have created a new storm in the IPL council.
Gavaskar further expressed his desires to resolve the matter on priority. He had urged in his statement that former president Sharad Pawar and Shashank Manohar must meet in order to sort out the issue.

demanding. He attributed his agreement to work on governing council with the offer made by former president BCCI Sharad Pawar.
Gavaskar said that his valuable services for IPL as member of governing council deserve due credit and the extra payment was a source of inspiration for the guidance and advise he offered to BCCI.BCCI needs to resolve the matter on immediate basis. With
a legendary cricket player on one side having high reputation of integrity and character, the promises offered by BCCI must be fulfilled.
