Sunil Gavaskar and Wasim Akram to help PCB organize a franchise league – Cricket News Update
According to reports, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Manohar-Gavaskar-c91863 and Wasim Akram in Sri Lanka to get their opinion about the proposed Pakistan Premier League (PPL) and the return of international cricket in the country.
No major international team has visited Pakistan since the terror-attack on the Sri Lankan team outside the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, in March, 2009. Over the last three and a half years, the Green Shirts have played all their matches away from home, which
is a massive disadvantage.
The people of Pakistan are mad about cricket and it is much bigger than just a sport in the country. It is a pity that the masses are deprived of witnessing international cricket in their land.
A senior PCB official told the reporters that Gavaskar, the former Indian captain, is likely to visit Pakistan soon along with some other great names and is keen to help the board revive international cricket in Pakistan.
"Zaka invited Gavaskar to visit Pakistan who accepted the invitation and also assured him (Zaka) that he will endeavour to bring former Test cricketers to Pakistan to discuss the holding of the PPL," the source said.
The legendary batsman expressed that organizing a franchise league will be a massive move towards encouraging different teams to visit Pakistan.
"It is a good step for the development of cricket in Pakistan and the holding of PPL will be a step forward for bringing international cricket to Pakistan," said Gavaskar.
As per the source, legendary fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 has also shown interest in assisting the PCB because of his experience of working with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.
