The youngster has so far played six Tests for India but is yet to be tested in the limited-over formats. Gavaskar believes that Pujara deserves a chance in the game’s shorter versions as well because he possesses a sound technique.
“Something that certainly can be given a try, because he has got the basics right. If you have the basics right then expanding your shot-making capabilities is not so much of a problem,” said the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 captain.
The legendary cricketer expressed that Pujara has been playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well India’s domestic cricket and that experience should help him achieve success in limited-over internationals.
“It is just a matter of confidence. He has been in the IPL teams. Even there he bats down the order, where he has got to come in and start hitting the ball in the air soon enough,” he added. “What he showed by hitting the ball down the ground and getting
boundaries, he can also score at a fast pace.”
