Sunil Gavaskar demanded $4.5 million crore: BCCI
Reacting to the salvo fired by former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar over his non-payment issue, the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) has said that the former captain had asked them for Rs.20 crores
($4.5 million) as total compensation for his contribution to the Indian Premier League.

The secretary said, “His [Gavaskar’s] contract is of Rs 1 crore per year but he claims he was promised an additional Rs 4 crore a year. The BCCI has no knowledge of any such commitment and therefore it has
been unanimously decided that the money will not be paid,"

Srinivasan also said that there was no written record of the allegedly promised Rs.4 crore per year and Gavaskar will not be paid that money.

Yesterday, Gavaskar made comments to an Indian news channel, NDTV India that the BCCI hadn’t paid him his salary for three years as the IPL’s governing council member. However, the BCCI secretary, N Srinivasan
said that Gavaskar was looking at being paid Rs. 20 crores.

Gavaskar had claimed, "I have not been paid at all by the BCCI since I took the offer and have been sending gentle reminders about it (to the board)." He also added that he wanted to meet the BCCI president
to clarify the issue.

http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manohar-c74222 later said that while he would welcome Gavaskar to have a chat with him, he also added, "All payments have been cleared except for the last quarter."

Gavaskar was the member of the Indian Premier League governing council on an annual retainer of Rs. 1 crore ($225,000). However, the BCCI had decided to change things around for the governing council from
this year and made the posts honorary. Gavaskar refused to join the council because he thought that working for free for a tournament that earned millions of dollars did not make sense.

MAK Pataudi and Ravi Shastri had been the other members of the IPL governing council in the first three seasons. Pataudi had refused to continue in the council without any remuneration either, while Shastri
and a new former cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohinder-c77564 Amarnath were included in this year’s council.
