Sunil Narine is not as dangerous in Test cricket, believes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 – Cricket News Update
Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, the mystery spinner from the Caribbean, is a bigger threat in limited-overs cricket, compared to the longer version of the sport.
The 24-year-old turned out to be the difference between the two teams in the shorter formats of the game, helping his team seal the T20 series as well as the five One Day Internationals (ODIs), played earlier this month.
Narine picked up seven wickets in the two T20s played at Florida and was named as the Player of the Series in the ODI battle, grabbing 13 scalps in five matches.
On the starting day of the first Test at Antigua, the visitors posted a competitive total of 232 on the board for the loss of four scalps, efficiently countering the threat posed by the Caribbean bowlers.
Despite the fact that Narine picked up three wickets on day one, the Kiwi captain is satisfied with his batsmen and expressed that the mystery spinner from Trinidad & Tobago is not as dangerous in the five-day format because batsmen
do not have to attack him.
In limited-overs cricket, teams have to keep up with the scoring-rate all the time, enhancing Narine’s chances of dismantling the opposition.
"Red ball and white ball are totally different," Taylor believes. "Red ball, we don't have to go after him, he has to come and get us. With the white ball we have to attack him and it showed today that if you sit on him, he goes searching."
The youngster gave away 73 runs in his 28 overs and picked up three top-order wickets, two of which came at the closing stages of the day’s play. The Kiwi skipper hopes that his batsmen will continue to cope with Narine, which is
important, if New Zealand have any chance of dismantling the home team.
"He picked up a couple of wickets towards the end there, but I thought the way we played him was very good and if we can continue that good work then we can get a sizeable total tomorrow," he added.
