http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 moves up to top 20 in ICC’s ODI bowlers’ rankings – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760’ spin sensation Sunil Narine has moved up into the top 20 on the ICC’s ODI bowlers’ rankings for the first time in his career.
Bolstered by recent impressive performances against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the Kiwis’ ongoing tour of the United States and the West Indies, the 24-year-old off-spinner has moved up 23 places to take up the 13th spot on the most recent rankings, released
by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 on July 24.
Narine began his meteoric rise to fame after making his debut in 2011, in an ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Ahmedabad, during which he claimed 2 for 34. Since then, he has gone on to play a total of 15 ODIs for the national side (with 28 wickets to his credit), and
41 T20s (with 60 scalps to his name).
He made an indelible impression during the 5-match ODI series the West Indies played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in March this year, during which he claimed a total of 11 wickets, with the Aussie batsmen struggling to pick the young off-spinner.
The right-armer appeared all set to make his Test debut in the extended-overs series against Australia – however, he opted for the Indian Premier League 2012 after attracting a $700,000 bid from the Kolkata Knight Riders’ franchise, during which he remained
the highest wicket-taker for the team.
Narine appeared to be going from strength to strength, but was humbled during the team’s tour of England in June/July this year, during which he struggled visibly on the English pitches, and failed to impress.
However, the recent series against New Zealand have seen him making an impressive return to form, following his brief slump in England. He went on to claim a total of 7 wickets during the 2-match T20I series the West Indies played against New Zealand in
Florida, and followed that up with a remarkable 13 wickets, at an average of 11.23 in the 5-match ODI series in the Caribbean, including a career-best 5 for 27 in the series final.
Impressed by the performance which saw Narine winning the Player of the Series award, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 dubbed him “unplayable”, going on to express his confidence that Narine would “continue to do well for us and have a very successful career”.
The off-spinner has been picked as the team’s frontline spinner for the upcoming Test series against the Black Caps. Although his Test debut in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 was far from ideal, Narine’s performance on home soil in the extended-overs format of the game remains
to be seen. The first Test is due to be played from July 25 to 29 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
