West Indies’ mysterious off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, last night.
Narine was picked for the award ahead of Sri Lankan wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653.
The Trinidad off-spinner debuted at the international arena in December last year and quickly became one of world’s most promising young talents, courtesy his raw turn coupled with ability to deliver a difficult knuckle-ball. During twelve-month assessment period, spanning August 4, 2011 and August 6, 2012, the wily spinner picked up 28 wickets in 15 One day Internationals, at an impressive average of 18.82.
After making an unimpressive Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the two-match home Test series, picking up 12 wickets at an average of 25.66. He also impressed the 32-member independent jury with his T20 International performances, claiming seven wickets in five matches, including best figures of four for 12 against the Black Caps, at Lauderhill, Florida in July.
"I've enjoyed my first year in the West Indies team. I've worked hard and I've dedicated myself to the game,” said Narine after receiving the award from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 President.
“This makes me look at life and makes me want to dedicate myself more to the game and to improve. I dedicate this award to my father who kept pushing me," he added further.
Narine follows in the footsteps of fellow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 bowler Devendra Bishoo as the winner of the Emerging Player gong.
"We've a good junior set-up so hopefully the awards keep coming for us," said the 24-year-old Trinidad off-spinner who was also adjudged as the Player of the Tournament at this Year’s Indian Premier League, where he played for champions Kolkata Knight Riders. "I would say this is just the start. As Emerging Player of the Year I know I am someone to look at, and hopefully I will continue to do well,” he added further.
