Sunil Narine ranked among ICC’s top 20 ODI bowlers – Cricket News Roundup – July 25, 2012 – Part 3
West Indies’ mystery spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s recently released list of top ODI bowlers.
The 24-year-old off-spinner rose up into the top 20 for the first time in his career, following a string of impressive performances against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. Narine claimed 7 wickets in 2 innings during the 2-match T20I series against the Kiwis in Florida, before
going on to take 13 scalps in 5 innings during the ODI series that followed, including a career-best 5 for 27 in the final match of the series.
The right-armer came into the spotlight earlier this year, after claiming 11 wickets during a 5-match ODI series against Australia, and has since gone from strength to strength, barring a recent dismal tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. However, in home conditions he has
been described by captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 as “unplayable”, with the skipper going on to predict that Narine will “continue to do well for us and have a very successful career”.
Afghanistan’s upcoming ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-c61327 Shinwari claiming that the match will provide the team invaluable experience.
“The value of the match in terms of increased experience as well as confidence and skill building will be immeasurable,” Shinwari said. “Our players and supporters greatly admire and love cricketers from Australia, and the opportunity to play them has created
widespread interest and excitement.”
The match marks the Afghan team’s second game against an ICC Full Member team (the first having been played earlier this year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755). The game is due to be played prior to Australia’s series against Pakistan, and will take place at the Sharjah
Cricket Association Stadium on August 25.

“Our preparation is geared towards a game plan of looking to bat four sessions ... You just need to keep batting, keep facing balls and accept that, with every delivery, things will get easier and you'll feel more comfortable with the conditions,” said van
Wyk.
The Black Caps have had a difficult time on the Caribbean pitches, having lost both the T20I and ODI legs of the tour. A warm-up match against the WICB President’s XI (at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua) saw them struggling to end the game on
a draw – a performance which doesn’t augur well for the upcoming series. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Wyk is of the view that the team will be able to secure a victory if they can show some staying power at the crease, and maintain a focused and patient mindset.
