Adrian Barath, the Windies’ opener, has backed fellow Trinidadian Sunil Narine to make an impact at Test level when he takes the field during the third and final Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Narine was originally not a part of the Test squad after opting to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League, where he represented the victorious franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Following the conclusion of the mega event, he was quickly drafted into the
lineup as a replacement for the injured fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KAJ-Roach-c1758.
Debate had been amplified over his non-inclusion in the Test team and his preference to play in the IPL at a time when the national side was looking for a quality spinner. Narine’s stature had risen owing to some scintillating displays in domestic circuit,
where he claimed a total of 34 wickets from six games at an impressive average of 11.88.
However, he was not contracted to the WICB which ultimately saw him travelling to the sub-continent rather than Europe. His mystery spin was key to KKR’s success and he emerged as the most valuable player of the tournament – scooping up 24 scalps at 13.50.
The spinner has featured in 8 ODIs where he has picked 14 wickets at 20, while has further plied his trade with the national team in 2 T20s. If selected for the third Test, he will make his first appearance in the longer version.
With the Windies already relinquishing the series, following defeats in the opening two Tests, they still would want to avoid a probable whitewash, for which Barath feels Narine could prove handy despite having little time to acclimatize to the surroundings.
"He has the ability to be a world-class bowler," Barath said. “A spinner of his capabilities will adjust his pace and flight to the conditions. Everyone has seen him in T20 and he's obviously made a name for himself even before he's played a Test. But I've
played a couple of first-class matches with him this season and it wasn't easy. Most of the batsmen were really guessing and just sticking their bat out.”
“Obviously the conditions are different - the ball doesn't turn as much in England - but by the fourth and fifth day any good spinner will extract spin."
