Sunnis and Shias? What r they fighting about?

Yeah, I'm a little late on this matter, lately I've been obsessed with learning about OTHER religions and I've lost touch with world news. I know that Shias believe Muhammad's (sorry if I misspelled that) cousin is to be the muslim leader or something along those lines, and the Sunnis don't believe that, but what r they fighting each other for? In the name of what belief? Can anyone give me a generalized explanation, I just want the basic concept so don't copy and paste from wikipedia, I shall read the whole article on another occasion.

First of All: Ben C you are absolutely wrong. No Shia was allowed into the Baath Party!

To the asker: Mohammed is the Prophet of both Shiaa and Suni! The fight started after Mohammads dead and who is his successor. Most Shiaa are in Iran and minoroties are in other arabic countries (less than 1 %). This is why you find most Shia around Iran and not in egypt or marocco.

In theses days it is more a political problem! Saddam Hussein satrted in 1980 the war with Iran based on to wipe out the Shia from the world!

Ummm this is a bit simplistic isn't it? Shia and sunni are not always in conflict and where they are there are often a myriad other reasons that are just expressed through sectarian lines?

Examples: In Iraq the conflict is generally based on the demographics and history, the Shia Ba'ath party was a minority but oppressed the Sunni groups brutally. The Sunni's now refuse to let this happen again and want proper representation in the government befitting their majority status, whereas the Shia's are afraid that this will lead to retribution for their past crimes.

Its slightly self perpetuating but its really just another case of have nots fighting haves. This is where it becomes more my opinion but I believe factors such as demographics, economics and recent history are much more important to the conflict than sectarian beliefs.

Note: In Jordan and other relatively stable states Shia and Sunni conflicts are almost non-existent.

First of all the important point is not all the Shias believe as you expressed in the question. There are Shias that accept Hz. Mohammed's prophethood. Most of the confilicts are not religious, political.

Speculative publicities made by media or false knowledge in the society also can cause conflict. Although people lifestyles, languages are the same they hate each other for just only this difference about sectarian.

Lastly and most importantly according to me, dividing societies into different parts and using the seperated parts for creating instability in these societies is a strategy in International Relations. I think this point is the source of all the causes of confilct between Sunnis and Shias.

In simple terms, both the Sunni and Shia have different interpretations of what Muhammad meant when he gave them the word of god. Both believe they are the true followers of Muhammad's teachings. They fight over which sect is the true follower of Muhammad.

Sorta like the Catholics and Protestants fighting in N. Ireland.

It is very hard to explain. The Sunnis and Shias - in the loosest term are like Catholics and Protestants.

Well, I'm not sure of your acquaintance with Islamic teachings but in Quran  God has commanded the obedience of Allah himself, The Holy Prophet Muhammad's and The one who is able enough to order. As it is Quranic command there is no dispute but in interpretations, shia believe that absolute command of the third beside Allah and His Prophet must also be infallible which is if he is divinely appointed and guided and  so they believe in twelve Imams, First of them was Prophet Muhammad(SAW)'s cousin Ali. Whereas, sunnis believe in caliphate after Prophet Muhammad(SAW) to be the one, who is not necessarily infallible and divinely guided.That is the belief part, and for now if they are fighting is mostly political nothing else.

Shias and Sunnis are fighting due to illiteracy as first point and by following religious leaders as biggest mistake and not using your brian in case of matter of religion and muslims are divided into sects by not studying the islam quran and haidht due to that many restrictions like not to mingle with opposite s*x free s*x restriction from interest money and girl/boy friends watching obsenity these are the basic restrictions by quran and hadith on a believer by islam b/c islam is not the mean of any concept of religion as form of prayers or meditation.

however if you see QADIANIS AHMEDIs due to one difference however they believe Prophet Muhammad Sallah ho aleh he wasalam as prophet too but not as last messenger and rasool they entitled to be non muslims in consitituion of pakistan ammended by Ziaul Haq Chief of army of pakistan and shia sunni interpretation of the quran and hadith have 10000 differences people are not ready to title them non muslims neither any firm interpretation of quran and haidth.

The question is that who have the right to interpret islam or quran and haidth in islam you have knowledge of arabic language and quand and hadith and guidance by rasoolullah salalh ho alehhe wasalam andchronial and non chronical order to read and interpreet that finish But who will do this job Even Saudi arabia claim to Nucleus of Ummate muslima centre of muslims ummah they have non islamic political system not as khalifat representator of god to be just but as monarchy the system of head only criminal law for punishment of murder and theft exists and no need to implement other 1000s regulations as law?

I want to give one more example why people are fighting people specially girls are too much nude and semi nude and dressed up in extra ordinary vulgar manner in general as 90% inpakistan since 5 years however written in consitution of pakistan article 2a that islam will be the religion of the state and local cable tv an channels are too muh nude and muslims girls on tiop in mdeling and pakistan have news paper cutting 18 lacs and 68 online members of s*x on adult sites as active members and no pornographic law and adult movies are sold in pakistan as millions of movies in months and specialy in religious months of ramadan holy month of muslims in pakistan the country created on the name of islam.

religion is taught to and read by illiterate person in islamic countires in 22 islamic counties including pakistan i haent met a sinlge peson in my past life who is eihter intermediat or graduate and aalim and mufti interpretor of islam only religious council and shariat court have few learned person based of religion as merit and professors and phds on religions they taught in too much complex manner and not able to understand islam as clearly how to solve this communication error an interpretation error as whole.
