Phoenix Suns’ Josh Childress suffers fractured finger against Warriors
Josh Childress of the Phoenix Suns suffered a fractured distal phalanx on his right finger in Tuesday night’s exhibition against The Golden State Warriors. Childress will rest the injured finger for a
week after which the condition of the finger will be re-evaluated.
Childress suffered the injury with 7:54 left in the game when he was fouled on a drive to the basket. Childress left the game briefly to get his finger examined but returned with 5:39 left and played the
rest of the way scoring three points and getting five rebounds.
Childress
Childress was the sixth overall pick in the 2004 draft where he was picked up by the Atlanta Hawks.  Childress came from a strong three year college career with Stanford where he the was awarded many honours
most notably the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year in 2004.
Childress had a strong rookie season being ranking third among rookies in double-doubles in the 2004-05 season. Childress was also voted onto the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. The following few years with
the Hawks saw him have shot percentages consistently above 50% and double-digit points per game but in 2008 he decided to take up a $20m offer made by Euroleague club Olympiacos Piraeus. He spent two seasons with the Greek club but returned to the Hawks earlier
this year.
Will it effect the Suns?
The Suns acquired Childress by giving up a future second-round draft pick to the Hawks. In the preseason playing as a reserve forward-guard Childress averages 7.9 points, 4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per
game. Childress is shooting 57.1 percent from the field and averages 21.4 minutes a game.
It remains unknown whether the absence of Childress - fifth in points-per-game on the Suns - will have an effect on his team’s start to the regular season. Whether it does or not will depend on the duration
of Childress’s absence and whether his teammates are able to pick up the pieces.
The Suns’ record in the preseason is two wins and five losses and their next and final preseason game will be Friday against the Denver Nuggets.
