Sunshine Coast Open: Horace Wing Ho Leung sends Simon Leung to packing in Men’s Singles challenge
Men’s Singles shuttler Horace Wing Ho Leung stood full to his stature against the opposition of local crowd and stamped Simon Leung in Sunshine Coast Open Tournament on August 12, 2012.
This epic battle was staged in Nambour, Australia and both shuttlers put all they had to read final result of 20-22, 21-16 and 21-16.
There was lot of drama in this three-set match as Simon Leung was in strong position to seal a straight-set win at one stage but then the opposing shuttler turned the tables with his staggering performance in ending two games.
The spirited Australian campaigner Horace Wing showed strong character despite of losing very first game and locked the honour with distinction.
In the opening game of the match, he started his campaign in perfect manner but couple of fatal mistakes cost him a vital match point.
Horace Wing looked completely on song in the first half as he finished this segment of the set as a leading contender but he lost focus in later part of the game.
Meanwhile, Simon did not squander this opportunity and stormed back with a strong reply. He matched his rival’s skills in all areas of the game and bagged first set with a tight yet favourable margin of 22-20.
However, he could not repeat this performance in following game and knelt down in front of his opponent.
This time Horace Wing did not waste time and established an unassailable lead straight away in the beginning. He kept moving forward at steady pace and got into commanding position with figure of 11 before half time.
Later part of the game saw him injecting more intensity in his campaign and blowing his competitor away with a gutsy performance of 21-16.
The decider became crucial with this development as both contenders were now equal with one win each and they were looking to fetch final match point.
Both compatriot shuttlers remained close until mid-game break but Horace Wing showed elevated craft in second half and won the third set with notable difference.
He enjoyed a decent advantage of five points and finished this battle with a favourable score of 21-16.
