Sunshine Coast Open: Wesley Caulkett, Mitchell Wheller cast out Jeremy Cross, Will Mckechnie
Men’s Doubles experts Wesley Caulkett and Mitchell Wheller proved their supremacy over compatriot pair Jeremy Cross-Will Mckechnie in Sunshine Coast Open Tournament on August 12, 2012.
This straight-set match was played at local badminton arena of Nambour in Australia and both local teams put all in their possession while piling up final figures of 21-17 and 21-19.
The victorious duo of Wesley-Mitchell played flawless badminton in both sets and cornered their rivals in all areas of the game.
Though, the opposing team strived hard to finish this battle in their favour but luck was not on their side and they had to face a 2-0 defeat.
The opening game set the overall tempo of the match as both contenders displayed commendable craft on court and did not allow each other to make difference until game point situation.
In first half, Jeremy and Will showed some spark in beginning but they got pale in front of strong backlash of their challengers.
They started their campaign with couple of successive points but Wesley-Mitchell put their expedition to halt by storming back into match.
They dominated overall pace of the rallies and placed an indomitable total of 11 before the interval.
After one-minute break, Jeremy and Will brought thrill into contest by grabbing valuable points in a row. They maintained the upper hand in third quarter of the game but their dominance was short lived.
The twosome of Wesley and Mitchell struck hard in final moments and tipped the scale in their favour with a convincing margin of 21-17.
They managed to go with same flow also in second set of the match. This time they launched a brisk attack and left their competitors far behind by gaining a comfortable lead.
They did not lose this tempo and kept moving forward at steady pace to finish first half with a respectable score position of 11.
However, things were not that easy after mid-game break as their compatriots Jeremy and Will put all they had to avoid a woeful defeat.
Both teams were locked in an edgy situation when Wesley-Mitchell bagged last two points and ended this cliff hanging tussle with 21-19 margin.
