Sunshine Coast Open: Zhi Hoe Phang outshines Paul Lim to claim Men’s Singles crown
Men’s Singles title of Sunshine Coast Open Tournament belonged to Zhi Hoe Phang as he displayed unbeatable badminton skills and toppled Paul Lim on Sunday, August 12, 2012.
This final match was staged local badminton arena of Nambour in Australia and both compatriot shuttlers entertained the crowd by putting up a great fight in three exhausting sets.
Though, Zhi Hoe had to face a severe blow in very opening game but he came back from behind and locked the honour by registering decisive figures of 18-21, 21-15 and 21-4.
On the other hand, Paul Lim could not live up to the billing and surrendered without putting any effort in ending two games.
The Australian shuttler started his campaign in an impressive manner by clinching the very first match point with distinction.
He employed interesting tactics as he kept low profile in the beginning but then got into commanding position with couple of uninterrupted points.
Next couple of rallies saw him everywhere on the court as he picked the bird early and dominated overall pace of the game.
Meanwhile, Zhi Hoe strived hard to catch his rival in third quarter of the set but he had to give up this unproductive chase after reading 18-21 score on the board.
However, he made amends in very next game by stamping the opposing shuttler with a notable difference of six points in the final margin.
This time he played with right approach and did not give his challenger even a single chance to establish an early advantage.
In first half, Zhi prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies and added valuable points in his total. He did not lose this rhythm all the way to mid game break and placed an indomitable figure of 11.
After the interval, he accelerated the pace and dictated his competitor until game point situation. He won this crucial segment of the tussle with a favourable result of 21-15.
Third set turned completely one-sided affair as Paul hardly resist throughout the decider and knelt down tamely.
Zhi Hoe proved his supremacy in all departments of game and emerged as champion with a staggering knock of 21-4.
