Suntracer ruthless in the Woodchopper Stakes after his come back from behind victory at Fair Grounds turf
The 3-year-old Team Block owned Suntracer finally bagged one after dwelling last in the field of eight decided to pick up his game and match strides with the leader way ahead of him. Rosie Napravnik hardly had to do anything aboard Suntracer as he romped
from last to a magnificent off the pace victory in the $ 75,000Woodchopper Stakes at Fair Grounds race course on 25 November, 2011.
With a quarter mile to go in the race, Suntracer was never in contention as he was last to eight, but suddenly with a good turf under his feet, the feel good factor came into the equation as Suntracer whistled past his rivals on the outside with a breath
taking run to the wire.
The turf felt so much better, were the words from the winning jockey, Rosie Napravnik who also was on a good run after landing 4 out of 10 of her races at Fair Grounds on 25 November and two out of the four were on grass. "The test will be tomorrow and if
we get some rain."
Suntracer was at the Fair Grounds last year, and it seems that he has a particular fondness of the turf at Fair Grounds because he broke his maiden here going at a mile and then finished a troubled second also at a mile in an allowance race on 18 December,
2010.
Neil L. Pessin trained son of Kitten’s Joy, Suntracer has nothing in the winning’s column this season as Willcox Inn was his major tormentor this season keeping him at bay thrice this season to finish second, and that’s the only time he came close to winning
a race prior to the Woodchopper Stakes.
Second in the Arlington Classic to Willcox Inn over at 1 1/16 miles on 28 May, 2011, and the followed up with another second place finish in the Grade 2 American Derby, and then finally facing up to Willcox Inn yet again in his last start in the Grade 3
Hawthorne Derby where he finished second for the third time.
Suntracer won twice earlier this season, both in allowance races at Gulfstream Park and Keeneland.
