Super Bowl: New England Patriots to outnumber their opponents on points-table in second half – NFL News
The New England Patriots have shown time again that they are better than opponents in the second half of a game and they will be looking to capitalize on their this advantage in their Super Bowl championship game against the New York Giants on Sunday, February
05, 2012, to increase their prospects for a win.
It is unique strategy of the Patriots to start off their games at rather slower pace and trap their opposition in the allusion of their likelihood of maintaining a similar pace throughout the game. Their second half of a game has proved to be a major shock
for their opponents at most of times.
The team’s attack line is unable to pull together themselves in the initial phase of game, leaving it to their defence to play their role most and then score some points on turnovers and other mistakes of their opponents, in between.
They are able to build a solid foundation in the first half and then unleash their offence on the opposition in the second, and build a momentum of consecutive scoring attempts.
In the weekend game, if the Patriots are able to score about 13 to 17 points in the first two quarters, they will be well set to top-up the score with another 23 to 27 in the last two quarters.
Altogether they are likely to lead the New York Giants with about 23 points in the second half, even if they trail them with a minor difference in the first.
Since it is expected to be a low-scoring game, the Patriots are likely to 33 to 37 points maximum in the match with their opposition managing around 23.
The game of Tom Brady is going to be key difference to their performance and if the quarterback is able to click at the right time he is capable of running riot on the field. He was unlucky to have remained below the mark in their last game against the Baltimore
Ravens.
The role of their receivers and running backs will be crucial to supplement their QB’s efforts and increase their advantage over their opposition.
One of the factors that can count to the Patriots’ disadvantage is their recent poor record against the New York Giants. They have lost their regular season game against them, while their 2007 Super Bowl loss is in addition.
This also comes as an opportunity for them to revenge their past defeats. The Patriots are a better outfit in all comparisons and if they are able to keep a faith and confidence into themselves they stand clear chance of a victory on the weekend.
