Super Bowl frenzy gets the troops to enjoy the games with the Marlins
You seldom find strangers integrating and enjoying a football game together. In fact, it is perceived that way. However, in reality, that statement does not hold true which is why the Florida Marlins wasted no time in arranging
a joint Super Bowl sit down with troops from the United States Military. The contingent unit of Marlins’ representatives joined the troops stationed in the desert terrain of Bahrain.
The game between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers began at 2:25 am, Bahrain time, and many soldiers moved in to see the game on an 18-foot-by-18 foot screen, outdoors. The Marlins contingent was there to join the
party and watch the football game with the troops. Florida Marlins’ team President, David Samson was able to talk about the occasion, before the game began. He told the press about the event and the excitement.
"There are about 75 picnic tables and 300 members of the armed forces, and the Marlins. We are watching the pregame and we are mingling with the troops, talking about baseball and football. They're throwing a football around. They're
throwing a baseball around and having a milkshake."
The Super Bowl XLV marked one of the most followed events of the month and the Marlins wanted to be a part of the excitement. Their eight-day visit to soldiers, stationed in Germany and Southwest Asia served the purpose of supporting
the troops and be a part of their moment.
Some of the people who went included, Samson; Special Assistants – Andre Dawson and Jeff Conine; and players – John Buck and Logan Morrison.
"The (troops) are extraordinarily excited that we are here," Samson said. "The opportunity they think they have to watch a game with us is significant. But the funny part is, the opportunity that we have to watch the game with
them is even bigger."
Apart from the aforementioned representatives, some other executives were also taking part in the event. The troops were highly festive about the event and they served a lot of hamburgers, hot dogs and milkshakes along the way.
Furthermore, the soldiers represented their teams by wearing their attire and supporting the clubs through chants and jeers.
If the Marlins wanted to connect with the troops, their mission was a success. With spring training fast approaching, this was probably a good idea.
