Super Bowl run: Indianapolis shines without its stars – NFL feature
The Indianapolis is in limelight of the media for playing hosts to the National Football League (NFL) championship.
It is for the first time for the city to have the event at their home ground. This is the only thing for them to celebrate this year.
They are coming out of one of the worst times of their lives. Their team, the Indianapolis Colts, have shown the poorest form on the field with a couple of wins to their credit. That was not seen a possibility until their first 13 games.
They could only manage face saving wins in their 14th and 15th games before ending their season on the same losing note at which they had started it.
It is not just losing streak of their team; their star from the back, Peyton Manning, had not been able to play a game due to his neck surgery.
He is still very much doubtful for next and more seasons to come. He is nursing his neck injury, and his relationship with his employer, Jim Irsay, is on thin edge.
The future of his career is uncertain with Irsay holding all his cards closer to his chest. No one knows what is awaiting next for Manning and the fans of the Indianapolis.
The uncertainty has gained firm grounds given recent rash overhauling of his team by the owner. He has parted ways with all his managers, coaches, including the head coach and still is not seen done with it.
This is also a reason for many to believe that Manning might be a history for the Indianapolis. The player himself has spoken high of his association with the city and his affection with the local fans.
He expressed his strong desire of coming back to the city. With nothing much confirmed by his employer, there is a sword of sacking hanging over his head all the time.
The near future is expected to determine his future course, though. Irsay has revealed his intensions of meeting the player within a week.
It is for the second time that he has spoken of similar interest. His earlier assurance of meeting the player never proved true. So the possibility of meeting and timeline of it remains in question.
The city in the meantime is lost in the hustle bustle of the Super Bowl and festivities around it. An influx of people has added to its charm and festivities outlook.
Still a large number of locals who follow their team and the stars like Peyton Manning are disappointed to have been without them, not sharing the moments of happiness with them.
A number of people have shown their apparent frustration over the sacking of their head coach and managers by Irsay in one go and at the crucial point of the football season.
They believe it could have been more joyful for them to have their stars and team officials cheering and celebrating the successful organizing of the event.
With that being impossible now, they said that they were hopeful that they not lose people from the Indianapolis.
They have especially backed Peyton Manning to rejoin his team to play football for more seasons to come. They said they were as happy to have Manning back as the player himself was to stage a comeback. In the meantime they have something to cheer about.
