Super Kings disappointed to sit back and wait for results: Fleming – Cricket News Update
Chennai Super Kings coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Paul-Fleming-c91190 has admitted that while his side’s chances of making it to the playoffs of the ongoing Indian Premier League 5 are slim, they are hoping against hope for the chance to progress into the next stage of the tournament.
“We have to sit back and a number of results have to go our way. While we are always hopeful, we have to be realistic that we have got ourselves into a position where we are reliant on a lot of things,” he said.
The Chennai Super Kings have been crowned IPL champions twice before, and were expected to be a strong side in the current season. However, they got off to a faltering start, and were only able to win 4 of their first 10 matches.
With the playoffs of the tournament looming and all of their games played out, the Super Kings are currently at number 4 on the points table, having won 8 of their 16 matches. However, their spot in the next stage of the season is far from confirmed,
and depends entirely on the results of the matches other teams have left to play.
Commenting on the team’s mediocre performances this season, the coach put it down to their inability to amass collective high scores throughout their IPL 2012 run.
“We didn't get collective run flow,” Fleming admitted. “… We struggled, apart from the 200 against Bangalore. It's not all over and, hopefully, our players can get a chance in the playoff if a few results still go our way. We are hoping against hope.”
The coach went on to single out opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427, who has been among the team’s star performers this season, but has been erratic in terms of delivery – 3, 42, 9, and 13 being his scores in his last 4 matches, which are in stark contrast to the
scores of 73, 58, 43, and 71 which he registered in the earlier stages of the tournament.
He also commented on the team’s previous match against the Kings XI Punjab, which the Super Kings went on to lose by 6 wickets – the Kings XI bowlers restricted their opponents to 120, before going on to chase the low target with ease.
“… we are disappointed to lose. We were outplayed today,” Fleming observed. “The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 pacemen bowled beautifully on this pitch, kept us under pressure.”
