Super League debutants Constantine Mika and Mickey Paea excited - Rugby news
While talking to reporters on November 25,New Hull Kingston Rovers’ latest recruits Constantine Mika and Mickey Paea shared that they were excited about making their Super League debut.
A chance to play in Super League is a huge break for both players. Mika, who fills in as second-rower on field, will join his ex-Newcastle Knights coach, Craig Sandercock. Meanwhile, Paea had to decline a new contract from National Rugby League(NRL) franchise,
Canterbury Bulldogs, in order to join in with the Rovers.
The 25-year-old prop expressed his delight and said, "I jumped at the chance. I've always wanted to come here and I'm ready to get stuck in. It's exciting to come here and play alongside guys of the calibre of Benny Galea, Michael Dobson and Jake Webster."
The 22-year-old Mika was also excited to join in with Robins for which he had already turned down a lucrative offer from NRL quarters.
While expressing his thoughts about the latest in his career, the player stated, "I was talking to a few clubs in the NRL but I've always wanted to come to England and experience it. I thought I might as well do it while I'm young rather than later on in
my career and that's probably the main reason why I wanted to come."
He went on and added further that one of the contributing factors to his decision is that he enjoyed working with Sandercock at the Newcastle Knights.
Mika says the chance to work alongside his former coach was also a contributing factor in his decision of moving to Craven Park. He explained and said that he was already having talks with many other clubs in England when Rovers’ option came up. He knew
the very instant that this was it and without delay he pounced at the opportunity.
The player also went on and praised the kind of fan base the club offers and said that he always wanted to be part of a great club.
Mika was the sixth successive pre-season 2012 signing by Robins, after a close run against the Castleford Tigers, who wee also bent on making the deal work.
Mika penned a two year contract with Rovers in October and now is all set to embark on his Super League career.
