Knee injury rules Western Force flanker David Pocock out of Super Rugby for two months
The Western Force suffers from a severe setback as their flanker David Pocock has been ruled out for two months due to a knee injury. The flanker got injured on Saturday playing against the Sharks. Pocock is one of best players on his team and is also considered
the best player of the world for his position.
Pocock is also part of Australia’s national rugby team. He plays for Western Force in the Super Rugby. Scans have revealed that his injury is not serious, but he has been told to stay off the field for at least two months. His team lost the match as he walked
off the field in the first half. The Sharks overcame the Force 39-12.
Getting off the field, Pocock feared he might be ruled unfit for a longer period, but the injury proved to be a minor one. He might consider himself lucky for being sent off only for four to six weeks, but his team is bound to suffer in his absence as the
Western Force has not won a single match in the current Super Rugby competitions. The other bad news for the Western Force is that Mitch Inman is also expected to miss play for six weeks. He will miss three to four matches of the Super Rugby.
The news of David Pocock’s minor injury comes as a relief for Australian national coach Robbie Deans. Deans hopes that Pocock will play an important role in the upcoming Rugby World Cup. The World Cup will kick off in September in New Zealand.
Pocock and Inman will be available for the World Cup, but their Super Rugby team will face a tough challenge proceeding to the championship.
Western Force coach Richard Graham is disappointed with the players’ injuries. He said, “It's disappointing to lose David as he is clearly one of the best players in his position in the world. During the period David is unavailable, we can look to the quality
and depth we have in our backrow stocks, with Richard Brown, Ben McCalman and Matt Hodgson giving an excellent balance to that area of the ground.”
