Super Rugby: Kurtley Beale adds to Waratahs'
injury woes
Kurtley Beale joins the prolonging injured list of New South Wales Waratahs as he had a knee surgery this morning. He received a severe blow to his knee during the last clash against the Queensland Reds, played last weekend. A number of Waratahs players
were injured in the same clash including Phil Waugh, the skipper.
The trio visited the local hospital to determine the severity of their injuries earlier today. The Waratahs have missed their overall ninth player in this ongoing Super Rugby competition. The Waratahs’ performance has remained quite average in the matches
played so far. They are currently placed at seventh position on the point’s tables whereas 2nd among their home derbies.
The Waratahs’ coach, Chris Hickey, is hoping that the latest injury was not a serious one and Beale will be available for their next clash against the Melbourne Rebels. The coach admitted that it was difficult to produce better results with the limited available
resources. Hickey added, “We've lost quite a few of our backs, it's a situation where we're shuffling players a little bit in terms of positions, so the outcome of Kurtley's scan and his availability would certainly force us into a situation where we would
have to reselect the team”.
However, the coach also told reporters that a couple of more players are recovering from their respective injuries. He quoted players like Barnes and Berrick who are likely to be included in the playing 15 after long absences from the team. He told the media
that huge changes have been made in the side within a short span of one year. He shifted his conversation while saying that injuries have always been a part of rugby but unfortunately this issue has been more frequent with them.
He asserted that despite large injuries, his side can bounce back into the championship. He argued, "We've got great confidence despite all the injuries that we've taken, we'll have a team on Saturday against the Rebels that will be more than capable of
getting the job done for us". He also appreciated his team’s resilience since many international players were restricted to the benches early in the season.
Hickey hoped that their forthcoming match would be a real tester for his side as the Rebels are placed 12th on the point’s tables. However he is hopeful that the rest of their matches would be comparatively easy for them as most of them are home games. He
concluded his conversation with the hope that his side would perform better than Queensland in the remaining contests, saying, "We have now got five of our last seven games at home and Queensland have got some challenging games in front of them”.
The Waratahs would take on the Melbourne Rebels on 30th April in their Super Rugby clash.
