Super Rugby: Midway review of Australian teams
The first half of Super Rugby has been completed and so far the Australian teams have remained impressive in the current season.
The Queensland Reds has grabbed overall first position on the point’s tables with seven victories after eight outgoings. Whereas the All Blacks and Reeboks teams are falling on second and third positions respectively after nine rounds of championship.
Super Rugby was formatted this year by the SANZAR member countries to upraise the quality of game and to attract maximum supporters to watch the action live. SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) made couple of encouraging changes in this
regard and permitted five teams from each member country to participate in the championship. In the other decision they reduced the overseas matches from 50% to 30% in order to avoid unnecessary fatigue.
As for as the performance of the Australian teams is concerned they have really played up to the mark. The best outputs have been given by the Queensland Reds which is ruling over the point’s tables. So far they played equally well on the foreign and national
soil and they look confident to make their place in to the semi finals. Last match they played against the Blues the defending champs, was a stunner. They defeated the Blues in a nail biting contest by 39-30 and claimed the sixth consecutive victory of the
tournament.
The players like Beau Robinson, Quade Cooper and Will Genia has produced a real performance to put their side on top. The other factor behind their success is that of low ratio of injuries.
New South Wales Waratahs has come up as the second best team of the Australia. Their sluggish play has restricted them to the overall seventh but second among the home teams. They started off very nicely as the managed to defeat the top seed Reds in their
second contest and crushed the Melbourne Rebels in the opening game. The Waratahs lost the tempo in the midway and lose three matches of their next six outgoings.
Melbourne Rebels made their maiden appearance in the Super Rugby championship and stole a march upon their two home teams. They are currently having the third place among the domestic teams and ninth overall.
Rode Macqueen the coach of the side is happy with the current standing of his side. The side has been creating a number of chances to score but there is a huge problem regarding their tackling.
Rest of the both sides Brumbies and Western Force have been proved ordinary outfits in the played rounds. Both of them could win two each matches after playing eight games. The next half of the Super Rugby will be started on 22nd April as Melbourne
Rebels take on the Blues.
