Super Rugby attracts English player James Haskell - Rugby News
English flanker, James Haskell, who has signed a three-month deal with a Japanese club after the conclusion of the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, is willing to play in the next season of Super Rugby 2012.
The flanker has been attracted by the spotlight the championship provides and has been looking forward to make his Super Rugby debut for the Queensland Reds or Crusaders. The Super Rugby championship has remained highly successful and its Final will be played
between Reds and Crusaders on July 9.
26-year-old James Haskell told the media about his long term planes on July 4 and said that he has signed a three-year deal with the Wasps. However, he explained that before starting his three years tenure with the Wasps he is likely to play for three months
with a Japanese club along with one season of Super Rugby followed by RWC 2011.
Haskell started off with the London Wasps in 2002 and played with the club until the end of 2009 before joining Stade Francais. He represented London Wasps in 73 matches and scored 70 points for his team. He has also remained part of England Saxons before
joining the national side of England in 2007. The flanker has played 33 International games for England and is hopeful to be included in RWC 2011 squad.
Haskell thanked the manager of England’s team, Martin Johnson, for allowing him to play in Japan and the Super Rugby competition. He said that, "I'll miss the 2012 Six Nations, so there's an element of risk. But I told Martin my plans and he is supportive.
He knows I'm a better player for my two years with Stade Francais, he also knows I'm coming back to England and Wasps long-term."
Haskell further said that, "I was very flattered and humbled by Wasps enthusiasm and commitment to re-sign me. I want to come back to start the 2012-13 season a better player, ready to fight to play in the 2015 World Cup, hosted by England."
James Haskell will be the second English player to play Super Rugby championship after Danny Cipriani if he is considered by the Reds or Crusaders next season.
