Super Rugby outfit Blues Bulls sign Los Pumas' Dawie Steyn on a two-year contract: Rugby News
Pretoria based South African Super Rugby Franchise, Blues Bulls, has acquired the services of the Argentinean international prop, Dawie Steyn, to strengthen their squad for next season. Officials at the club have confirmed the signing of Steyn on a two-year contract in a statement released on their website on Friday, October 14.
The new deal will allow the Pumas international front row forward, Steyn, to represent Blue Bulls in Super Rugby’s 2012 and 2013 season.
Steyn was born in Pretoria and started his amateur rugby career in South Africa. He has attended University of Pretoria, where he has also represented them in Super Bowl Rugby. He has also played for Blue Bulls amateur side.
Blue Bulls head coach, Frans Ludeke, has expressed his excitement on securing the services of the international prop for their upcoming season. He added that he has been following Steyn’s performance for last couple of season, which has earned him his new professional contract with the Bulls.
Ludeke has termed Dawie Steyn’s addition in the forwards back as very important. He has expressed his confidence that Steyn’s inclusion has added depth to their front row resources.
Ludeke further added, “He has all the attributes associated with Bulls front rowers and should add real value to our effort. I would also like to thank the Pumas for their professionalism in the way they handled the release of Steyn to us.”
The 27-year-old Steyn made his international debut for Pumas in 2008. He has expressed his delight on securing a professional contract with the Bulls side. He added, “It has been a dream of mine all my life [to sign with the Bulls].This is where I have always wanted to be.”
Steyn has praised the efforts of the Pumas coach, Jimmy Stonehouse, who has helped him to improve his game related skills. He added that he has enjoyed his time with Pumas and the things he has learned from them will help him through his career.
