Super Six World Boxing Classic semi-final fight in jeopardy – Boxing news
The Super Six World Boxing Classic semi-final fight will take place on May 14, 2011 at the Home Depot Centre in California, United States.
In the fight, current World Boxing Association’s World Super Middleweight champion, Andre Ward will fight with the former International Boxing Federation’s World Middleweight champion, Arthur Abraham for the WBA Super Middleweight title.
Although the fight has been finalised but still there are some issues to be solved.
Abraham’s camp is not fully satisfied and is looking unhappy with the selection of fights officials. Therefore, the fight is at stake as there are definite chances of cancellation if both the parties do not agree to the fighting terms and conditions.
The Sauerland Event promoter, Wilfried Sauerland and Abraham’s promoter have made a request to the California State Athletic Commission to appoint neutral officials for the bout. If they are refused by the Commission then they will definitely try to pull
out of the fight. They claim that the pre-existing clause of the agreement should be honoured.
After finishing his training session, Abraham will leave Baltic Sea for Los Angeles.
Sauerland said, “King Arthur is more than happy to challenge Ward in his backyard, but we demand neutral officials as agreed on, We have learned our lesson from the Kessler-Ward fight. Back then the California commission insisted on having a Californian
referee. His performance was, to put it mildly, a joke.”
Ward’s promoter, Dan Goossen has denied the existence of any such type of contract but convinced that he has spoken in the favour of neutral officials.
Ward is coming to the ring after winning couple of his tournament fights. The first one was against Mikkel Kessler and the second one was against Allan Green. Although Abraham was found to be struggling against his opponents in the tournament but after winning
two of his impressive fights, he is very confident to win this bout.
If the fight takes place, it will be a treat to watch for the spectators. Both the fighters are in good form and have performed extraordinarily in their previous fights.
