I have a window that opens but it doesn't hold its position. When i open it, it carries on opening without holding.

It looks like one of these:

  1. Tension up the grub screws on the hinges, that should do it!

  2. Check with the company that supplied and installed your windows, You should have a least a five year guarantee.

It sounds to me that this window is a fire escape, if it's over a flat or shallow pitched roof it will be. The best way to tell is if it opens out to 90% then it's a fire escape

  3. either side on the hinge there is a small brass grub s***w, open the window fully and tighten this s***w a little, then try it if it needs a bit more then tighten it some more to the required tension ! good luck,

on the  plastic sliding part of the hinge there is a very small counter suck s***w at the top usually brass, all hinges for upvc windows have them !
