Objectively, I would classify it as a fighting game. Essentially, the core of the game revolves around multiplayer (against actual humans or AI competitors) bouts where the object is to knock your opponent(s) out of the ring. However, there are adventure components. The Single-Player Campaign, though based upon the same engine as the multiplayer core, acts very much like a traditional platformer (though, of course the definition of "platformer" is subjective in and of itself).
