Okay, so my cousin and i were playing risk one day with my brother and we realized even though it's a strategy game, most of it had to do with luck. So we started going on about ideas we had to change it and we basically came up with what i call super risk, and here's the idea:

You have a giant tabletop map of the world and at least 10 sections to each continent (excluding antarctica) and when attacking, instead of dice rolls or anything left up to chance we would do something more skill oriented like play stratego or something. So what do you think? Any criticism will be accepted?

  1. You could minimize the element of chance, but I wouldn't eliminate it altogether. After all, the largest and best-equipped armies don't always win. (for example, the Spartan 300, Russian army at Stalingrad, etc.)

  2. I like the idea, but try this one on for size.

Get a super smart computer that learns as it experiences.  Have it undergo a series of... let's call them War Games... to see who would be the winner if a nuclear war was to start.  Then begin the game.  It starts with a former scientist carrying a warhead from country to country in his carryon.  She's trying to sell it to the highest bidder.  At a random time in the game (decided by the computer) the warhead goes off.  The players and the computer decide at this point who they believe attacked and what retailiation will occur.  Whoever choses Antartica as a home base WINS!

    Enjoy!

  3. Aye there must be a better way to play risk. I always got mad because I would lose all the battles on account of bad dice. I think a good idea for the battles would be to make a mini chess game (like 6x6) and have the units represented by chess units, for example the infantry can be a pawn, the cavalry a knight, and the cannon a rook. This idea would need some fine tuning, but I think it's a great one.

  4. Your idea is good. But what my friends and I always do, and we do play alot. We play normal, but when a battle occurs we stand up and go outside. Then the attacker goes first. He hits the defender as hard as he can. If the defender is still standing he gets to hit back. Depending on how many pieces were involved in the battle decides how many punches each person gets. If all the punches run out and both players are still standing then its a tie. The tie breaker is resolved by a team vote of all the players. So its a democracy too! This game style works very good, but it can be painful if you lose alot. Just try it. Trust me its alot of fun.

  5. I love it! Super Risk. You should go for it. That's a great idea.
