Superb Andrew Luck leads Indianapolis Colts to 30-27 win over Green Bay Packers – NFL Recap
It was an emotional day at Lucas Oil Stadium as the Indianapolis Colts led by impressive rookie quarterback Andrew Luck overpowered a year earlier Super Bowl champions the Green Bay Packers 30-27 on Sunday (Oct. 07) to dedicate the victory to ill coach Chuck
Pagano who was mentioned by interim coach Bruce Arians and the quarterback in a tearful post-game media talk.
Luck proved on the day what a talent he is and how much he is capable of leading his team to a win against any side single-handedly. He finished the game with the career-high 362 yards and turned out to be a formidable force on the field in a coordinated
effort with wide receiver Reggie Wayne.
It was first game for interim coach Bruce Arians and he must be proud of the team’s effort to help him start on winning ways. He dedicated the win to his head coach Chuck who is fighting Leukaemia and hospitalised. So did Luck. Both members of the Colts
organisation in post-game media remarks were almost in tears while honouring the coach with the win.
Luck said:
"I'm sure we were all lying to everybody the whole week, trying to downplay it. I think we all went out there wanting to do it for Chuck more than anything else. To see all the emotions on Mr. Irsay's face, BA's, everyone in there, I think it's one of the
greatest athletic moments I've ever been a part of."
Owner Jim Irsay said of the situation:
“You guys doing this today, Bruce coming in, all you guys pulling together, Reggie being so close to Chuck going back for so long. Everyone in here knows how much that this means, and this ball is going right down the street."
The win has helped the Colts to equalise the record of their past season but then they had achieved it in 16 games and now they are already 2-2 in the American Football Conference (AFC) South with only four games played so far.
Luck completed 31 out of 55 passes for his career=best 362 yards while Wayne, who was found at the receiving end of the offence leader, caught 13 passes for career-best 212 yards.
It was an impressive display of skills by the duo. They connected well all the times, but the final four-yard touchdown pass with only about 35 seconds left to finish the game was the most celebrated play by them that ensured the victory.
Although the Packers looked good at times, it was the strong show put by Luck, who was in his best form, that led Packers to a convincing loss versus the hosts.
