Superb Berry Henson claims his victory at Clearwater Masters – Asian Development Tour
Second event of Clearwater Masters sanctioned by Asian Development Tour came to a conclusion yesterday. Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort was the host of this 72-hole championship. Berry Henson of USA continued his form on the final day and emerged as the champion.
The 31-year-old Henson from USA claimed his maiden victory playing on the Asian Development Tour. Once again, he played well during the final decisive round and carded a score of four-under par, 68. Henson did not look under any pressure as he had a six-shot lead before starting the final round.
This was Henson’s first win while playing on the international circuit. His final round included four birdies and was bogey-free for his round. Henson played superbly and was hitting the ball well off the fairways. His powerful hitting helped him secure a victory.
The tall American also was putting well on the fast greens and had a good read. This was a great win for Henson as he looked in great form during all the four days. Henson had a six shot as he started the final round being the leader. He was very much comfortable and played in the same manner on the final day.
The veteran Henson had a four-day aggregate score of nineteen-under par, 269. He won this championship by a huge margin of seven strokes over his nearest competitors.
Smiling Henson after his round said, “This is my first international victory and it hasn’t set in yet but I’m pretty excited especially with the way I played. It was probably on 17th that I saw the leader board and knew I was going to win this.”
This victory was a break-through one for Henson who also earned his Asian Tour card earlier this year. He was confident that he will be able to win on the Asian Tour circuit also.
Chang Tse-Peng of Taipei came second. He played great golf on the final day and improved his standing on the final score board. Chang carded an excellent round of eight-under par, 64. This was also the lowest round of the final round.
Chang was simply amazing with his crisp iron shots and putting. He had nine birdies and a single bogey on his score card. This was a great performance by the Taipei player who finished this tournament on a high note. He had a four day score of 12-under par, 276. Chang was seven shots behind Henson.
Malaysian star M. Sasidharan finished tied at the third spot with Jonathan Moore of USA and Rick Gibson of Canada. All these three players had a 72-hole score of eleven-under par, 277 and were eight strokes behind the winner.
The local lad Shaaban Hussin failed to produce his excellence on the final day. He was under a lot of pressure and carded a disastrous round of four-over par, 76. Hussin finished at the 14th spot.
Henson picked up the trophy and the cheque of US$13,125 at the prize distribution ceremony.
