Superb Himmat Rai takes club-house lead at Impian Classic – Asian Development Tour
First round of the Impian Classic of Asian Development Tour produced some excellent results. Indian golfer, Himmat Rai carded a fantastic round of eight-under par, 64, to take the club-house lead in the four-day championship.
Rai looked dominant from the start as his superb iron shots and smooth putting fetched him a total of nine-birdies for his round. The 23-year-old youngster played some excellent golf shots during his round. His soft touches around the greens helped him put up a great score.
Rai was almost flawless with his game. His beautiful swing was in complete momentum and he did not look under any sort of pressure. Rai has a lot of experience playing on his domestic tour, as he has also been playing on the Asian circuit.
Rai was quite happy with the way he putted during his round. He is now the club-house leader and leads the field by a margin of two stokes.
This is a great opening for Rai, who is looking for his maiden career victory playing on the Asian Development Tour. Now that Rai has taken an early advantage after his first round, he will certainly want to assure his name is among the top contenders to win the championship.
The players took full advantage of the soft greens, as quite a few players completed their rounds in red numbers. Chang Tse-peng of Chinese Taipei and the local lad, M. Sasidharan, posted a round of six-under, 66, respectively. Both the players are just two shots behind the club-house leader.
Experienced players like Ben Long, Iain Steel and Danny Chia had rounds of three-under par, 69.
Rai was quite happy as he has regained form after a long time. He has certainly set a great pace on his debut appearance in this tournament.
The Indian, after his brilliant round, said, “I played great and did everything right. I’m really happy. The way I saw it, I pulled the shots off and I read the lines well. I stuck to the basics and it was a day when it all fell into place.”
In January, Rai reclaimed his Asian Tour card after passing the qualifying stage. Some of the top contenders like Airil Rizman and Sayum of Bangladesh are still on the course completing their rounds.
