Superb century by Jonathan Trott put England in command
Jonathan Trott played magnificently as he scored 137 runs in the sixth One Day International being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground today. He played a tremendous knock smashing the Australian bowlers to all parts of the ground, scoring 137 runs out of
England total of 333.
England captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and elected to bat first. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 had a reasonable start scoring 18 runs before being bowled by MG Johnson with score on 41 in 7.3 overs. Trott who is playing some fantastic cricket, joined the captain for a decent
partnership of 121 runs.
Trott and Kevin Pietersen had a solid partnership of 68 runs before Pietersen was caught by Smith on the bowling of Brett Lee. After the fall of the third wicket, Ian Bell came to the crease and effectively secured one end as Trott was flourishing at the
other, scoring his second century of the series in a glorious way. It was his second century of the series. The century partnership was critical for England and took the score to 293, just as Bell fell to Shaun Tait on well played 45.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/EJG-Morgan-c1419 joined Trott for the final 4.1 overs. Morgan hit 21 of 13 balls before he was caught by Tait with England’s total on 319. Trott was finally out on the last ball of the innings with an individual score of 137. England managed to post a final score
of 333.
The Australian bowlers were at the mercy of the English batsmen and did not perform well. Shaun Tait took two wickets for 55 runs in 10 overs as Brett Lee, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 took one wicket each.
England went into the sixth ODI of the series against Australia hoping to bring back some lost pride as they try to win the remaining two ODI’s. England had already lost the series as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 leads the seven match series by 4-1 before this match.
It will be exciting to see how the Australian batsmen chase the 333 runs target in the second innings.
