    4.  Johnson

    Jeffries

    Corbett

I wouldnt be interested in seeing any of these fights, the Schmelling vs Carnera fight might be a good scrap while it last.

  5. Tunney is a safety first fighter.  He would remain a step ahead of Sharkey all night.  He would not be foolish enough to mix it up with Jack.  Dempsey caught Tunney briefly.  Sharkey would not be so successful.

Schmeling doesn't pack the punch Baer did to KO Primo.  Still Schmeling was a very smart fighter.  He'd devise a strategy to take down the big man or shut him out on points.  It shouldn't be that hard for Max........................................ Primo fell on him.

Jeffries vs McVey is not easy to call as we don't have footage of either at prime.  Still, by all accounts, and I believe as well,  Big Jeff would have been a much more formidable opponent vs Jack Johnson had he fought Johnson earlier.   Jeffries did say he would not have beaten Johnson at his best but part of that was just respect.   I don't think young Jeff felt that way.

OF the "BLACKTASTIC 4" (Johnson, Langford, Jeanette, McVey)  McVey was the more lightly regarded of the quartet.  Giving Johnson only a slight edge over Prime Jeff,  I would say that McVey falls just short of the mark.  Using rules similar to today I would say..................

    Jeffries by KO in 14

Johnson beats Corbett with little trouble.  This is not even a good match.  Corbett is often credited for being the "Father of modern boxing".  IF this is close to true than Johnson certainly adopted the style and perfected it.

Corbett didn't take the best of punches, no did he have the greatest chin.  Johnson would easily outbox him.  He was simply far more talented than Corbett.  After all these years Johnson STILL remains in the top 12 of most lists and Certainly on mine.
