Superstar Lily pulled from St Leger quarter-finals at Wimbledon
Superstar Lily has been pulled from the Williamhill St Leger quarter-finals at Wimbledon. Lily’s trainer, Kevin Hutton, pulled the greyhound Thursday morning, October 14, citing the dog's lameness.
Lily was scheduled to race in the 3rd quarter-final of the day, race six on the Wimbledon card. Her trap, trap three, will remain empty.
Lily had finished in third place in the first heat of the St Leger on  October 9. She ran well in the race and did not suffer a fall or apparent injury.
It is unlikely that Lily would have won the 3rd quarter-final, a race that will feature a number of strong racers including with Kinda Easy, who is currently the race favourite with 11-8 odds.
Easy’s odds probably would not change very much if Lily was still racing, but a couple other racers should see their odds change with fewer hounds participating in the race. Baran Pimlico was a joint-favourite with Easy in the first round, but is now sitting
at 7-2 after losing to Easy last week by 1½ lengths.
Head Iton Jason will see his chances of making the semi-final improve, having only to beat Pimlico or Droopys Bradley in order to earn a top three finish, assuming Easy takes first and 16-1 longshot, Ravello Drive, finishes in last.
Bradley currently has odds of 2-1.
Both Fraziers Clone and Bodell Clare, the hounds that beat Lily last week, are racing in other quarter-finals.
Interestingly, Lily earned her spot in the semi-final in a heat that featured only five competitors. Farley Zach was supposed to run from trap two, but dropped out of the race, leaving the trap empty.
Williamhill St Leger 3rd quarter-final draw: 1 Head Iton Jason, 2 Droopys Bradley, 4 Baran Pimlico, 5 Ravello Drive, 6 Kinda Easy.
