Superstars dominate 34 entires for Gold Cup
The Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup will be contended by some of the best and talented racehorses of the country. It has been revealed that 34 declarations have been made for the prestigious event, and the field will be dominated by superstars of the modern
horse racing arena including the colts Imperial Commander, Kauto Star and Denman.
The aforementioned racehorses form the backbone of the potential winners for the 500,000 pounds event, which wil take place at Cheltenham. They have also claimed four previous editions of this event and are the winners of several other significant jumping
events.
Imperial Commander clinched victory in this event in the last racing season. He is expected to win this race again this time however, this year he has some tough competition from other champions of the sport. For instance Kauto Star, who could not win the
race last year, will be returning with improved skills and talent. Moreover, he is also the hot favourite with the sponsors for the much flaunted William Hill King George VI Chase. Kauto Star has won the event four times before, and is looking to claim the
meeting for a fifth time this weekend.
Imperial Commander’s other rival Denman is the trainee of seasoned trainer Paul Nicholls. Other contenders that will be saddled by Nicholls in this race include the racehorses The Nightingale, Neptune Collonges, What A Friend, Pride Of Dulcote and Noland.
On the other hand, the contenders that will be a part of this event from Ireland adds up to nine potential runners. These competitors include the recent winner of the Lexus Chase meeting, Pandorama.
Talking about the participation of Pandorama in the upcoming mega event, his trainer Noel Meade said, “Pandorama will hopefully head to Cheltenham providing he is fit and well, although we wouldn’t run him on good going. Good to soft ground would be okay
and we would love to run him in Gold Cup.”
He added, “He (Pandorama) has come out of his victory in Lexus Chase in very good form and we have always thought that he was capable of winning a big race like that. He would obviously have to improve again to have a chance at Cheltenham but he is still
a young chaser.”
Other major competitors in the Cheltenham meeting include the winner of the Hennessy Gold Cup Diamond Harry, the winner of the Coral Welsh National (Saturday) Synchronised and Midnight Chase, the Cheltenham specialist racehorse.
