These are some questions I need help answering. They go along with the mockumentary, Supervolcano, but you need not to have seen the movie to answer some of these questions.

1. How much volcanic ash does it take to collapse a roof? Dry? Wet?

2. Why do some scientists believe that an eruption at Yellowstone might be impossible in the next 1000+ years?

3. Why do some scientists believe that large earthquakes are now improbable at Yellowstone today?

4. When was the last supervolcanic eruption and where was it? What happened to the humans on the planet at that time?

5. When volcanoes erupt, they eject massive amounts of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. What does the sulfur dioxide do to the planet?

6. Name and describe five things you could do to prepare for a supervolcanic eruption.

7. The stickiness of magma depends on what two properties?

8. Name 5 destructive things that ash can do to organisms, the ecosystems and/or property.

  1. the two volcanoes in britain are in glencoe, scotland and the lake district in england and they aren't active

  2. it takes approximately 8 ft. of ash to collapse a roof when it's dry I'm not sure on the wet but it's something like 4 ft.

the reason that scientists think that an eruption won't happen is because due to the shift of the tectonic plates the magma chamber is no longer under it's caldera (crater of a super volcano)

i don't know about #3 but again it has somthing to do with the tectonic plates

the last super volcano eruption was Toba, Sumatra, 75,000 years ago Man was pushed to the edge of extinction, the population forced down to just a couple of thousand. Three quarters of all plants in the northern hemisphere were killed.

sulfur dioxide is highly toxic, stay far far away from it it would also act as a green house gas

things to do for a super eruption listed in order of importance :

    1. the most obviouse would be to move far away if you are near a super volcano that is about to erupt. if you can't  first thing you need is an underground shelter. the larger the better.

    2. stock pile UBERLY LARGE ammounts of canned food, water, non-perishables ( things that don't go bad for a long time), MRE's probably wouldn't hurt, and a few different kinds of seeds for when you get out of there

    3. stock pile LARGE ammounts of gasoline, diesel, natural gas and find a large generator that run's on one of the three fules i mentioned

    4. start a good collection of clothing, shoes and personal toiletries ( toilet paper, toothbrush and paste, razors, ect)

    5. electronics, a raido both a cb and atenna types, laptop with a wireless internet card if possiple

you should probably plan to use you shelter as a home for  about 5 years

magma consistance depends on two things: the kinds of minerals in the magma and the tempurature that it is most constantly at

volcanic ash is a very dangerouse substance, if and when you breath the stuff in the air it mixes with the fluid in your lungs making a cement like paste, no so good for your lungs. it blocks out the sunlight when it's in he atmosphere. it quite easily destroyes engins mixing with the oil and fuels, it is most destructive to jet engins, if three 3cm of ash has fallen then you can assume that no jets will be flying from you airport. as befor mentioned it can cave in roofs but it's only likly if your close to the volcano.
