Question:

Supplemental Infertility Insurance?

Does anyone know what companies sell supplemental infertility insurance? I have BCBS of GA and the only thing they will cover is testing for infertility, HSGs, ultrsounds, etc. but they will not cover any treatment. Anyone have any ideas? We are approaching out year mark in a couple of months and I want to be ready.

  1. No - the kind of coverage you're looking for doesn't exist.

No insurer offers coverage like that, because they'd go broke.  (If they tried to assess premiums to cover all the anticipated costs they'd pay out, no one would be able to afford to pay for the coverage anyhow!)

If you're fairly certain that you'll want to pursue infertility treatments soon, you need to start setting aside a fund now.  There aren't a whole lot of options other than paying out of your own pocket.  (Except for those rare people with employers who established policies to cover some of the treatments...and even then, there are generally strict limitations.)

Good luck!  And start saving as soon as possible.  (Or pursue other methods of financing, if you're so inclined...loans, home equity, etc.  Not that I would personally recommend putting yourself into massive debt to conceive, but some people do make that choice.)

  2. None, because only the people who ever wanted to use it, would ever buy it.

  3. Oh, as soon as I saw your question, I was a bit dissapointed! I remember your questions from months ago...I am just sad it hasn't happened for you yet!!

Have you tried Femera? Your insurance may cover that...it will stimulate an ovulation...of course if other things are an issue it may not help...depending on finances you may have to just keep trying in hopes of it being your month...I really look forward to seeing you say BFP.
