Question:

Supplementing Vitamin C for my Guinea Pigs?

I free feed timothy hay, supply a daily ration of vitamin c enriched pellets (which, I know doesn't stay stable for long), and also provide approx. 1.5 cups of veggies a day...usually consisting of lettuce (romaine, red leaf, or green leaf) parsley, and either apple, carrot, bell pepper, or cucumber slices.

With the combination of fruits and veggies and the enriched pellets, should I still be supplementing vitamin c (in the form of chewable tablets scraped over their veggies daily)? Or can I rest assured they are getting enough from food sources?

  1. A good source of vitamin c is either scraping the pill over or putting it into a mash or using a few sticks of bell pepper that is about more than half of daily vitamin c in take! Just make some slices and then you will be good with the rest of the day!

  2. I think that since you are feeding them plenty of fruits and veggies(you could try expanding, see what they like) having nutruitional supliments isn't necessary. If you really want to just pick up some liquid vitamin drops for guinea pigs. I am glad to see you are taking such good care of your piglets!

  3. It sounds like you really take care to make sure your piggie has a good diet!

Personally, I do not supplement Vit. C unless I have a sick piggie, which is not often. They receive plenty of Vit. C for their daily needs from their diet.

  4. Read ny site find out that and more
